Chapters

I’ve noticed a few Facebook posts, this morning, from a few different people, talking about either looking back and realizing they got through some chapters in their lives and were grateful, or some who were letting go of the past and starting a new chapter.

I was already having a sense of “new” before I even saw those posts. I don’t know if they were confirmation or the word, “chapters”, was needing to help me to work on some books that I’ve started. Either way, it did get me to thinking.

In order to step into anything new, letting go of the past is something you have to do. Learn from it, of course, but look back only to confirm how far you’ve come and to get a clearer picture on where you’re going.

You always hear these cliché quotes, such as, “letting go is the hardest part”, or “let go and let God”, but really, what does that actually look like? And, especially to a person who may seriously have to let go of some things but can’t get past hurts, hangups, struggles, etc?

I think, first of all, you have to get a vision for your future that is so clear to you and that is ingrained in your heart and soul so much so, that you can’t look back at anything that is contrary to that. The Bible says, in Proverbs 29:18, that “where there is no vision, the people perish“. I believe they perish because they don’t know where they’re going or even where they want to go. So they live their lives with a “que sera, sera” attitude. They live however, doing whatever, letting whatever happens, happen.

But what happens when you get a vision for your future? Well, I would think that you’d live like it, right? I know it’s easier said than done…I’m going through this now. Even Paul, Jesus’s disciple, went through it. The things he wanted to do, he didn’t do, and the things he didn’t want to do, those things he did. (Romans 7:15-25)

Though it may be difficult to do everything that lines up with what we see for our future, how about just starting somewhere. If you don’t have a vision of where you want to be, get one. And really think about who you truly are. Not the person that anyone else wants you to be or who you may pretend to be – just you – and figure out what you really want in this one life that you’ve been given.

After I started writing this morning, my best friend sent me a quote…

“A new thing is coming. Don’t rebuild the past. Stop trying to fix everything to be as it was before. A new thing is rising. Forget the former things and make clear paths for the new”. – Sandi Krakowski

I believe when you start to make a move, how big or small it may be, things start to line up, as well. I’m totally on this journey with anyone going through this thing called life and I am on it with greater purpose and passion than I’ve had before. I hope that you all are doing the same. And, if not, don’t worry…every day you awake is a new season for you. You got this!

Live, laugh, love, allow yourself to be loved, go on an adventure! Be blessed!
